Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton said this morning that First District Rep. Ed Whitfield will make a second appearance in Columbia on Monday, July 28, 2008.

In addition to his keynote address at the groundbreaking ceremony for the $19.5 million expansion of Westlake Regional Hospital at 1:00pmCT, Representative Whitfield will also make a presentation on the steps of the Courthouse Annex to deliver the ceremonial check for $284,410 in Homeland Security Funds for the Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department.

"Sandy called this morning to say that Representative Whitfield would alter his schedule to make the presentation," Judge Melton said. "He has to be at WBKO shortly afterward, but he wanted to do this to recognize a really great Adair County organization." "Sandy," is Sandy Simpson, Tompkinsville, KY, a well known figure in Adair County. She is Rep. Whitfield's field representative for the eastern part of the Congressman's First Kentucky Congressional District, which stretches from here to the Mississippi River.

Judge Melton said she is working to have a great turnout for this event. "It isn't everyday that someone accomplishes what Brandon Harvey has done for the people of the Breeding Area Fire District. I can't tell you how proud I am of Mr. Harvey and how much I hope others will follow his example to so selflessly work for the betterment of the people of Adair County."

"You know," she said, "it's not just that the grant will make the people of the Breeding area more secure. The new fire truck and the new equipment are important. But more important, I think, is the that they are showing a can do spirit, a spirit that I hope is catching fire in Adair County.""Brandon pushed ahead when others thought he was biting off more than he could handle," she said. "but with Congressman Whitfield's help, and Brandon's leadership, the Breeding Fire Department and all its members, are setting a wonderful example for the rest of us."
