2008 Harvey-Loy reunion one of largest ever REUNIONS PHOTOGRAPH List of attendees below included in article which follows By Diane Harvey Burris & Tony Harvey Another year has come and gone and we've had our Harvey & Loy reunion this past Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Wheet Fellowship Hall, First Church of the Nazarene, Columbia, KY. The turnout was greater than we could of ever imagined. In recent years we've had good attendance, but this year was outstanding. & The event was held indoors at Wheet Fellowship Hall at the Nazarene church on Hwy 55 south, which is always held the on the first Saturday in July. The total number of family that was in attendance was approximately 144 at least that were the number that registered in our sign in book. There could have been others that did not or forgot to sign in. There were 5 states represented, those being Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. If we have left out anyone from other states please let us know. There was a lot of delicious food to be eaten and there was little left over, and without a doubt we know everyone enjoyed themselves. First reunion, we think, in 1950 at fairgrounds While visiting with everyone we were trying to get an accurate date for the first reunion of our families. After much discussion, we're pretty certain that the first reunion was held in 1950 at the Adair County fairgrounds. Being as all of the charter members of both sides of the family are gone, this is the closest timeline that we could come up with. Founders H.H. Harvey, Peyton Loy, Millard Loy, and Gordon Harvey We do know however the ones who were responsible for coming up with the idea of having this event. They were H.H. Harvey "our grandfather," Peyton Loy, Millard Loy, and Gordon Harvey. These names were provided to us by our father Reece Harvey. After they had all passed on he was the person who oversaw the event, him and his good friends and cousins Delphus Frankum, Clifton Loy and many others who always attended. They were some of the first to arrive and the last ones to leave, always providing us with good stories and laughs. They will all be greatly missed and without a doubt are having their own reunions in the great beyond. Hopefully next year we will have those family members that haven't been able to attend recently to do their best to come and be there with us in future reunions. It is our responsibility to carry on this family tradition, as the elders of our family would expect and like for us to do. Diane H. Burris, Brenda B. Holt are current organizers Now my sister Diane Harvey Burris, of Tuscola, IL, along with the help of our first cousin, Brenda Bryant Holt, of Bowling Green, KY, have taken the responsibility of coordinating the reunion since 2001. If there is any other family members who would like to help with next year's reunion or any reunion there after are welcome to do so. It takes a lot of work and planning to see to the contacting of family members, radio stations, and newspapers to inform them of the reunion. We are looking forward to next year's reunion and we have already began planning for it. If we missed your name, we apologize. Some may not have signed the registry book.
