Study buddies an added benefit of carpooling

About: "Chat list set up for Adair SCC students to share rides"
Coping with high gas prices: carpooling to college

Hi Ed,

One edit is the address to the site, or they may never find it, as follows:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AdairGasSaversToSCC

will get them right to where they can sign in and request entry. Entry isn't automatic, I have to allow them in manually.

This is to prevent spam bots from flooding in.

Another edit is that it isn't a chat "room," a chat room typically means real time conversation. It is a chat "list," which is email based. I won't be holding emails until I can read them to post (as Yahoo allows) but will let the emails flow out as they come in.

Once I find someone behaving badly ala Topix, they will then be booted. I certainly hope this won't be like herding cats, but I am willing to try. One prevention is built in, they have to offer an email address to send/receive to/from the list.

People can gain access by signing in and requesting at the site or writing directly to the email I created for this purpose (this one), it's a rather long email name, but it states it's purpose; columbiagassaverforscc@yahoo.com.

I wouldn't be surprised to find, if this gets going, people asking for a ride to share right off the Russell Springs Ramps to/from the Cumberland Parkway. SCC has classes in Russell Springs.

I know if someone asked Jody and I if we'd drop them off and picked them up *if* the schedules matched well enough we'd certainly consider it. Jody took classes at the Russell Springs campus. The way the carpool works is up to the people after they decide to communicate with one another directly, removing me from the process.

People can choose either to receive emails or go to the site and read the posts on it, either way, an email is still required. I've run other chat list as well and belong to several. Some work; some die. Here the incentive is fuel cost savings. A good by product would be study buddies.

We just came from the beach at Holmes Bend (by the way, your Green River Owner pic is top notch).

s/Doug Swanner
