Genealogy: Ancestor fought with command of Robert E. Lee Information for Greg Burton I am the great-great-grandson of Almiranda Jane Wilkinson Fitts (Mrs. Samuel Jones Fitts, CSA, died June 11,1862 3rd Virginia Volunteer Infantry under command of R.E.Lee. He fought in Company known as the Virginia High Hills or the Virginia High Riffles and died tragically the day before the seize of Richmond aged 41. He produced six children among whom is the mother of my great-uncle, Gov. Wm. M. Tuck. My great-great-great-grandmother, Almiranda Jane Wilkinson Fitts was the daughter of the Wilkinsons who were descended over numerous generations from the Burdons and, indeed, the Burdon home still stood (outhouses and chimney's remain today) at Virgilina, Virginia. All family records are at the Wm. M. Tuck Wing of the South Boston Library. Poigant things and I have a few things of my own. Thus, we are cousins or kissing cousins for sure. I have all the family history...as I gather that you do....meticulously recorded by my great-uncle Marc Tuck, Professor of History at Washington and Lee University, brother of Bill Tuck and Ethel Pruitt Yeaman (my grandmother) and family official genealogist. There is always more to know and learn as you know. Believe me, I am as ever, your devoted cousin, Timothy Carter This story was posted on 2008-05-12 03:10:41
