Obituary: Pauline Gentry, 81, retired Ella store owner

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM OBITUARIES

She was a member of a large, highly respected Northeastern Adair County family. She and her husband had owned and operated Gentry Grocery in Ella for many years.

Pauline Gentry, 81, 4598 Sulphur Creek Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 11:20amCT, at the Russell County Hospital after an illness.

The funeral service will be Friday, April 11, 2008, at 1:00pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy.



She was born March 24, 1927, the daughter of the late Johnny A. and Mary Jane Burton Goodin.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Gentry, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One son and daughter in law: J.C. and Dory Gentry, Columbia, KY

  • One brother: Jack Goodin, Columbia, KY

  • One sister: Josephine Willis, Petersburg, IL

  • Two grandsons: Dan Gentry and his wife Reta; and Daryn Gentry and his wife Donna

  • Three great grandchildren: Kourtney and Kallie Gentry, and D.J. Gentry

  • And several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert Goodin and Lawrence Goodin; and six sisters, Queenie Willis, Emmer Simmons, Marthie Combest,Doshie Willis, Sophie Shepherd, and Ethel Dooley.

Mrs. Gentry attended the New Hope Separate Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated the Gentry Grocery in the Ella community for a number of years.

Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Visitation will be after 4:30pm, Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.
