Great Backyard Bird Count starts tomorrow Adair Countians invited to join the Count on February 15-18 With photos Click Here For ColumbiaMagazine.com's Birds of Kentucky directory The Great Backyard Bird Count starts tomorrow and continues through Monday, February 18, 2008. The event is sponsored by the National Audubon Society and Cornell Lab or Ornithology. During the President's Day weekend, participants are asked to count the species they see and send the results to the Bird Count. To reach the Bird Count online, Click Here. Last year, Adair Countians did participate in the count. In 2007, reports of 44 specie sightings, 1,532 birds were reported. The counts are listed with links for the last 10 years, 1998 through 2007. Adair County has reports for 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2007. To see the results for Great American Backyard Bird Count for Adair County for 2007, Click Here The Audubon Society, Cornell Lab of Ornithology story on the event follows: Both novice and accomplished bird watchers are invited to become Citizen Scientists during the 11th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), led by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. During "Presidents' Day" weekend, February 1518, participants will count the birds they see at home, in schoolyards, at local parks or wildlife refuges, and enter their results at www.birdcount.org.Now in its second century, Audubon connects people with birds, nature and the environment that supports us all. Our national network of community-based nature centers, chapters, scientific, education, and advocacy programs engages millions of people from all walks of life in conservation action to protect and restore the natural world. If you do participate in the count, please send any news of your activities, especially photos to ColumbiaMagazine.com.
