Larry Smith Picture from the Past: Burton Pawn Coca-Cola sign
2007-07-10 . Larry Smith, The Wave announcer and South Central Kentucky historian/photographer writes: "Here's the photo of the Coca-Cola sign that I have restored. There's more work to be done, such as more trimming and painting the black border, but it's a big improvement over the old, faded Coke sign that was previously displayed in the downtown area. The last time the sign had been painted was about 15 years ago. I offered to paint the sign, and Barry Burton, owner of the sign at S. Court and Main Street in Campbellsville, KY, told me go ahead, that he'd be happy to furnish the paint. Barry is the son of the late Moss Burton. Both are from Adair County. The sign was originally painted in the 50's when out-door advertising was catching the eye from every direction and since Coca-Cola is a historic drink today and the most recognized logo in the world, I wanted to paint the old, faded out Coca-Cola sign back into it's original 1950's look. Today if you drive the Main Street area you'll notice a huge difference.Coca-Cola still has a plant in Campbellsville." To see other Larry Smith. Larry Smith photos from the past: Coca-Cola 5 at fountains
2008-02-09 - Photo By Larry Smith. LARRY SMITH, WHVE FM 92.7 the WAVE NEWS ANCHOR, South Central Kentucky Historian, and photographer, sent a photo of a sign, not of our times. It's an old Coke fountain and license sign, advertising the price as 5. Most Adair Countians as old as high school students can't remember being able to buy anything for a nickel, but those of us who grew up in the days of E. Campbell's Store, or made it to the Aaron Bros. store at Glens Fork, remember when that was the going price. It's hard to believe how much inflation there is in soft drinks today. 2008-02-09 - Hodgenville Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo By Larry Smith. LARRY SMITH, WHVE FM 92.7 the WAVE NEWS ANCHOR, South Central Kentucky Historian, and photographer, sent a photo of a sign, also not of our times, which announced the building of a new home of Coca-Cola. He writes, "When the Coca-Cola bottling Company moved out on the old Hodgenville Road this was the sign representing that construction of Coca-Cola's new home was being constructed with a new modern bottling facility. The plant was managed by Russell Montgomery a native of Adair County. Coca-Cola is now located in Campbellsville Industrial Park and is owned by Clark Distributing Company." 2008-02-09 - Campbellsville, KY - Photo From the collection of Larry Smith. COKE PLANT NO. 2: Larry Smith, WHVE FM 92.7 The Wave news anchor, South Central Kentucky Historian, and photographer, pulled this old photo from his collection, and writes, "Here's a photo of the old Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Campbellsville. This was when the Coke plant was located on South Columbia Avenue in Campbellsville. I do believe this was the second location for the plant. The first being on main street where the 'Big Dawg' radio station is now located." Read More... | Comments? | Click here to share, print, or bookmark this photo.
