CPD thinks two recent burglaries may be linked POLICE REPORTS Columbia Street Department, Adair County Highway Barn hit within past four weeks. "It seems to be the season for break-ins," Chief Mark Harris says, and urges citizens to keep a watch on property this season." By Ed Waggener Special ColumbiaMagazine.com police report A pair of similar local burglaries are under investigation by the Columbia Police Department, which is asking the law-abiding public to assist them in solving the remaining mystery around the cases. "For some reason," Chief Mark Harris said, "this seems to be the season for burglaries. We're asking Columbia residents to just help us by keeping a closer watch on their property and to report any suspicious activity. He added, "We're not asking citizens of Columbia to do anything but be alert, and report the matter to us or to other law enforcement agencies. We'll take care of it from there." Both burglaries occurred within the limits of Columbia, KY within the past four weeks. The First Burglary was at the Adair County Road Department equipment buiding on Campbellsville Road, which was reported on Dunday, December 16, 2007. In this caper, approximately 10 chainsaws of various makes and models, including 2 pole saws, were taken. Also missing were four Motorola 2-way radios. The Second Burglary occurred at a storage shed on Fortune Street (Old Dispensary/Taxi office building behind Walker Realty & Auction Service) belonging to the City of Columbia Street Department, which was reported on Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Taken in this burglary were several gas-powered Stihl brand weed eaters, a Stihl brand hedge trimmer, a Stihl Brand Chainsaw, and a pole saw. Columbia Police Department detectives believe these two burglaries may be related. Anyone with information on these two burglaries are requested to contact the Columbia Police Department at (270) 384-4119 or (270) 384-2501. This story was posted on 2008-01-09 13:03:49
