Circle R down, Jan. 1, 2008

2008-01-01 - Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
"IT WAS JUST BEYOND SAVING," Michael L. Stephens, the new owner of the Circle R property said. This was the state of the landmark property on January 1, 2008, when Mr. Stephens was contacted. "We looked at it," he said, "but it was simply beyond repair." That doesn't mean that there may not be a new Circle R rise again on the site. "The Circle R name is one of the most recognized brands in several states. People want the kind of food they served there," he said. "We may be able to bring it back." But for now, the goal is to clean the site up and make it ready for its next use. The Circle R was gutted by a Monday evening, July 9, 2007 fire. Click here to read the earlier story. Scenic Kentucky: Three bridges on Greasy Creek

2008-01-02 - Jamestown, KY - Photo By Pen.
THREE BRIDGES OVER GREASY CREEK: "Just outside of Jamestown, KY, on the way to Lake Cumberland, is a spot where increasingly newer bridges have been built over the years to get to the lake faster and faster," Pen writes. "The oldest bridge occupies most of this frame, and what I considered the 'new' bridge is clearly visible at top right. If you look through the supports, you can just see the very new US 127 Jamestown Bypass bridge in the corner. I liked the way the mossy rail takes up as much space as the old bridge itself in the foreground." As always, comments, corrections, and additions are welcome.
