Adair Countians showed refinement, Fairdale, Ky pastor says ACHS made a positive impression at King of the Bluegrass Classic in Fairdale, KY a host there writes. "All the people here from Adair County showed a lot of class, Robb Stott, pastor of Mt. Holly UMC in Fairdale said, "It was good to have them here in our hometown." Dear Ed, The church that I serve as pastor, Mt. Holly UMC, provides a lot of the volunteers for the King of the Bluegrass Tournament each year. Gregg Longacre, the Fairdale Boys' coach, is a member of Mt. Holly. Our church provided the food for the hospitality room, serving both the press and coaching staff members Friday night. I want you to know that the boys from Adair County, their coaching staff and their fans all showed a lot of refinement and made a very positive impression here. I know that the Adair County overtime loss to a very strong University Heights team was truly disappointing. Such a loss would knock the wind out of lesser teams. Adair County then picked itself up and stormed on through the consolation bracket, defeating Trinity and Ballard, then blowing Henry Clay off the court today. The press members in the hospitality room last night were remarking on Adair County's "never give up" attitude. I want you to know that a lot of folks -- people who are not from Adair County and are not partisan fans -- think that Adair County's players did themselves proud. All the people here from Adair County showed a lot of class. It was good to have them here in our hometown. I don't think I got to meet any folks from Adair County last night; the Adair County/Ballard game was still going on when we came on duty at 5:00pm in the hospitality room, but I don't think any of the ACHS staff came in while I was there after their game. If I had seen any of them, I would have told them in person of the positive impression the Adair County contingent had made. Failing to do that, I figure the next best thing is to contact you and ColumbiaMagazine.com Congratulations to ACHS on doing a very fine job on several levels while here in Fairdale! Peace, Rob Stout Pastor, Mt. Holly United Methodist Church Fairdale, KY NOTE: First, we appreciate the wonderful hospitality Adair Countians were shown in Fairdale. The King of the Bluegrass is held in high esteem by all the participants here. Thanks to all the people of your part of Southern Jefferson County for that. Thanks, to you, Rev. Stout, for saying what a lot of us feel but can't find the right words to express about this new generation of Adair Countians. We feel so fortunate to have Coach Fudge, the players, the staff, the students and especially the adult fans and boosters, who express their enthusiasm with highly disciplined sportsmanship. I hope I'm not giving a way a community secret: I'm told the teams and boosters actually drill and discipline to maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship, at home and away. Each player, each fan, each booster is expected to be an ambassador for the school and community, regardless the outcome of the competition. We are so proud of them. Thank you so much your unique letter. Thanks for recognizing the difference they make. - EW This story was posted on 2007-12-29 19:00:33
