Uncle Dub and Aunt Sally: a memorable Metcalfe couple With one photo By Geniece Marcum Senior Quest Magazine, November 2007 James Washington Anderson was married to Sally Barton, December 11, 1911, and the couple made their home in Wisdom, Kentucky. Both were descendants of the Anderson-Baron clans, the first settlers in the area known today as Cave Ridge, KY. The Andersons were highly respected by all who knew them, and in their later years were affectionately referred to as "Uncle Dub" and "Aunt Sally Anderson." We do not have their exact birth-death dates, but bother were born in the 1800s. We know that she was a student in Liberty Elementary School with my mother, Addie Turner in 1898. Uncle Dub died in 1941 and Aunt Sally outlived him by several more years. Their granddaughter Margaret Polson, has many fond memories of her grandmother and the stories she used to tell about her grandfather. Aunt Sallie could drive a car though not very well, but when they went out, she had to do the driving since Uncle Dub couldn't drive at all. In spite of this fact though, he felt qualified to tell her how to drive. One day as the two were traveling homeward from Glasgow, they fell in behind another car which Aunt Sally was patiently following. Uncle Dub insisted that she pass them. So finally increasing her speed, Aunt Sally passed the car but cut back too quickly, hanging into the front of the other vehicle which then ended up in the ditch! To beat it all, Aunt Sally said, Uncle Dub insisted the owners of the wrecked car take the Anderson's car to drive home. "For all he knew," Aunt Sally had laughed, "We would never see our car again!"
