More than 120 Veterans honored at LWC luncheon

Lindsey Wilson College honored more than 120 area veterans and their spouses on Thursday, November 8, 2007, afternoon at the colleges annual Veterans Day Appreciation Luncheon, held at Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.



Lindsey Wilson senior Cody Stagner of Springfield, KY, who was injured in Iraq while serving a tour of duty for the Army, was recognized during the luncheon. Late last month, Stagner won an individual national title at the 2007 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships.

In appreciation of the veterans' service, the Rev. Terry Swan, who is Lindsey Wilson's dean of the chapel, gave each guest a copy of his book, 365 Inspirational Quotes About Veterans.

Dr. John Wesley Pierce is a World War II veteran who graduated from Lindsey Wilson in 1947. His visit to the campus on Thursday was the first time he had seen his alma mater since graduating from it more than 50 years ago.

LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE SENIOR CODY STAGNER of Springfield, KY, center, is flanked by Army veterans Kenneth Scott, left, and Johnnie Biggs, both of Columbia, KY. Stagner earned a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq. Scott, who was a sergeant in the Army, served from 1952-53 in Korea; and Biggs, who was also a sergeant in the Army, served in 1951 in Korea during the Korean War.
