Obituary: Mayrine Downey Rogers, 82, member Trinity UMC

Mrs. Rogers was a farmer and a member of a prominent and politically influential Adair County family. She was a major political figure in her own right in Republican party affairs in the 1970s and early 1980s and served as vice chair in both Adair County and Kentucky Fifth District Republican organizations

Mayrine Rogers, 82, of 3160 Greensburg Road,Columbia, KY passed away Saturday November 3, 2007 at4:48pm at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY after a long illness.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 11:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps- McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Travis Keltner and Rev. Garry Jones the officiating clergy. An Order of the Eastern Star funeral ceremony will be held on Monday evening, November 5, 2007, at 7:00pmCT at the funeral home.




She was born October 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Melvin and Zada Willis Downey of the Portland Community of Adair County, KY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesley G. Rogers in 1967.

Mayrine Rogers is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Judy Carolyn Rogers, Columbia, KY
  • One sister: Joyce Lee , Columbia, KY
  • One niece, two nephews, and one great nephew
She was preceded in death by one nephew.

Mrs. Rogers was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Star #835 in Columbia, KY.

She was very active in Republican politics and had served as Vice Chair of the Adair County Republican Party for many years and at one time held the same position in the Fifth Congressional District Republican party.

She was a long time farmer who operated one of Adair County's showplace cattle farms, located on KY 61 between Columbia and Milltown.

The family will receive visitors from 4:30pmCT until 8:00pmCT, Monday, November 5, 2007, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728.

Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

Mayrine Downey Rogers, a prominent Adair County farmer and member of an influential political family, died Saturday, November 3, 2007. After being widowed 40 years ago, Mrs. Rogers continued the family farming operation and was a power in the affairs of the Adair County and Fifth Congressional District Republican Party affairs. Visitation is after 4:30pm today. An Order of the Eastern Star funeral will be tonight at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. The funeral service is set for 11:00am Tuesday, November 6, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
