Mr. Frank Weldon Burton, of Lake Zurich, Illinois, participated this year in DNA testing. According to Ms. Elizabeth Siskron, a DNA testing website administrator, the results of Mr. Burtons DNA testing confirm that he and most Burtons of Adair County, Kentucky are descendants of Thomas Burton (ca. 1632-1686) of the Cobbs Plantation in colonial Virginia.

Researchers had surmised for many years that Adair County Burtons are descendants of Thomas Burton and Susannah Hatcher Stewart (ca. 1642-before 1736), formerly Susannah Hatcher Burton.

Mr. Burtons apparent lineage includes:
  1. Thomas Burton and Susannah Hatcher Stewart.
  2. John Burton (ca. 1666-ca. 1754) and Elizabeth Fowler Burton.
  3. James Burton (ca. 1700-ca. 1783) and Judith Burton.
  4. James Burton (ca. 1730-1814) and Sarah Stovall Burton (ca. 1740-after 1829).
  5. William Burton (ca. 1759-1814) and Elizabeth Keesee Burton (ca. 1760-before 1828).
  6. Arthur Burton (1794-1855) and Elizabeth Tarter Burton (ca. 1794-1883).
  7. James Madison Burton (1818-1897) and Elizabeth Harmon Burton(ca. 1820-1858).
  8. Chrisley Burton (1853-1939) and Priscilla Elizabeth Harmon Burton (1857-1932).
  9. Minter Burton (1885-1957) and Mary Lou Corbin Burton (1882-1967).
  10. Charles Burton (1906-1958) and Opal Irene Taapken Burton (1914-2002).
  11. Frank Weldon Burton.
Mr. Frank Burton is a second cousin of Mr. Erwin Heinrich Lepiarczyk II, of Adair County.

Mr. Burtons late father is a native of Adair County. Mr. Frank Burton and Mr. Lepiarczyks ancestor, Arthur Burton, was the first of their lineage to arrive after 1829 in Adair County from Pulaski County, Kentucky.

Arthur and his wife, Elizabeth, were natives of Virginia. Many Burtons of Adair County today are descendants of Arthur and Elizabeth Burton. The most popular name in Adair County today is Burton! Family members are proud that Burton Ridge honors the heritage of their forbears.Burtons of Adair County especially can thank Mr. Frank Burton for his participation in DNA genealogical testing.

Hopefully, more documentation will corroborate what the DNA testing results have already concluded. We all know the DNA does not lie!

Early records are sometimes very difficult to obtain in researching family genealogies. Copies of marriage records, deeds, wills, and tax lists are important documentations.

Mr. Lepiarczyk is diligently working toward publication of _The Burton Register_, a genealogical book honoring the heritage of the most prolific family in Adair County, the Burton family!

Mr. Lepiarczyk enjoys and appreciates communications from Burton family members regarding the genealogy of the esteemed Burton family. To contact E. H. Lepiarczyk: sir_erwin@yahoo.com
