Obituary: Arlis Turner, 63, well known oil man

Mr. Turner attended the Nazarene Church. The son of the late Bill and America Turner, he was a popular and successful Columbia business man, most notably in the oil drilling business
Arlis Turner, 63, Jamestown, KY, formerly a Columbia businessman, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 4:41am CT, at the Russell County Hospital Emergency Room.

The funeral service will be Thursday, September 13, 2007, at 1:00pm, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Darrell Pelston and Randy Young officiating and interment in the Columbia Cemetery. Visitation wil be after 3:00pm Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at the funeral home.


He was born November 25, 1943, the son of the late William "Bill" and America Mae Daniels Turner of Adair County.He is survived by the following:
  • One son: Carlos Turner and his wife, Samantha, Columbia, KY

  • Two daughters: Angela Smith and her husband Randy, Columbia, KY; and Lisa Pelston and her husband Brent, Columbia, KY

  • One brother, Herbert Turner and his wife Rita, Leitchfield, KY

  • His fiance': Debbie Rikard, Jamestown, KY

  • Six grandchildren: Chad Price and his wife Amy; Cody Turner, Blake Pelston, Ashley Price, Harlie Pelston, and McKensie Richards

  • Three great grandchildren: Emily and Jacob Price and Autumn Alley.

  • And several other relatives and a host of friends
Mr. Turner attended the Nazarene Church. He was known for his friendliness, wry good humor, and the ability to quickly make lasting friendships. He was successful in a variety of businesses and was well known in the oil drilling business.
