Poet of the People H.D. Harmon introduces Tompkinsville song By Ed Waggener H.D. Harmon, Columbia, KY, "The Poet of the People," has produced lyrics, to be sung to the tune of Tommy Collins' Take Me Back to the Good Old Days.Harmon calls this one, "Take Me Back to Tompkinsville," a tribute to the Monroe County, KY, county seat. He announced that the lyrics were coming over a year ago, and yesterday, he appeared with them. The song very well should become the border town's city anthem, if they take our advice. Not every community is so lucky as to have a song like "Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean," so easily adapted, unofficially, as "Columbia, the Gem of Kentucky." Hershel's work, "Take Me Back to Tompkinsville," is a no-brainer choice, in our opinion. One of his most humorous works, "When Pharmacies Become Fruit Stands," a brief but biting commentary, was publicly present at the Circle R Family Restaurant on July 12, 2006. Classics he's written include "Pick and Shovel Man," a somewhat autobiographical poem, the very funny "Food Stamp Program," and his unforgettable "The Studebaker Hawk with the Tennessee plates." Harmon, printed by Gerry Lou Hall. Mr. Harmon's agent is Joe Allen Moore, Columbia, KY This story was posted on 2007-08-29 08:40:39
