LWC Cycling opens with impressive weekend Team opens season with win over U of Missouri By Chris Wells, LWC sports information director The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team kicked off the 2007 season with an impressive showing over the weekend at University of Missouri. Freshman Erin Collins picked up a pair of wins and a third place finish over the weekend to help the Blue Raiders claim the team title. Collins dominated the field in the women's cross country, winning by more than 10 minutes over the second place competitor. In addition to Collins' win in Saturday's cross country, Lindsey Wilson placed five women in the top six in the event. Jean Schneider finished third, Rachel Millsop fourth, Sarah Lukas fifth and Samantha Hadley finished sixth to help Lindsey Wilson dominate the event. On Sunday, Collins grabbed top honors in the women's "A" short track, as Lindsey Wilson cyclist finished in four of the top five spots. Millsop finished runner-up in the women's short track, while Schneider and Lakas finished third and fifth respectively. In the women's "A" dual slalom, Hadley captured the win as Millsop picked up her second runner-up finish. Collins (third) and Lukas (fourth) helped the Blue Raiders to a sweep of the top four spots. On the men's side, it was a podium full of Lindsey Wilson riders in the men's "A" dual slalom. Cody Stagner won the race, as Weston Pope and Charles Mooney finished second and third respectively. Freshman James Brown captured the short track event and finished runner-up in the Men's "B" cross country, while Kip Spaude won the men's "A" short track. German Bermudez was the top Lindsey Wilson rider in the Men's "A" cross country with a second place finish. Lindsey Wilson cycling returns to action on September 8-9 as the Blue Raiders travel to Purdue (Ind.) University in West Lafayette, IN.
