Kris Knight gets big welcome home in Nashville, Columbia Home from Iraq: Despite delays in departure from Atlanta, whole family, including kids, stayed up to welcome him into Nashville; despite the storm Saturday, there was a good turnout for his welcome home party. He'll be home for 20 days before returning. Photos, links accompany this story By Melissa Taylor We were finally able to get Kris here and celebrate his homecoming after many months of anticipation. The weather wasn't very cooperative with us, but it just made the weekend more interesting. His flight into Nashville was delayed for several hours due to storms. He was stuck in the Atlanta airport and we were making plans to drive there to pick him up when the weather finally broke and he came on in. Although it was the wee hours of the morning Saturday before the flight arrived, everyone was so excited. Most of our family was able to be there and even though it was several hours past their bedtimes, most of the children refused to sleep until Kris arrived. There was another Marine from Tennessee flying in with Kris and his family and ours were anxiously awaiting. Just before the plane arrived, we passed out flags to the other folks who were awaiting the flight. There were banners and flags waving when they stepped into view. There were shouts of glee and many hugs and kisses through the tears of joy, but mostly big smiles! We became concerned about the weather a second time this weekend when the storm blew through Saturday afternoon just before time for his homecoming celebration. It took a little longer to get started cooking on the grill and we had no electricity for the evening, but we had a good turnout and everyone had a great time in spite of the weather! Kris plans to be in Kentucky for about 20 days before he returns to Camp Lejeune. He hopes to catch up with as many friends and family as possible during that time. Of course, he will have to fit in some time for his new horse and no doubt, fishing! Kris, as well as his family, is very thankful to everyone who thought of him and his fellow military brothers and sisters during his deployment. Being away from home and those that you love is never easy, but knowing that many are thinking of you and praying for your safe return makes it a little easier. Here are just a few notes about his career in the Marines:
