Gov. Fletcher calls General Assembly back into session Special Reminders EMERGENCY DROUGHT MEASURES. : Burning Ban, 15% water use reduction order in effect Ann issues executive order banning open burningEnd Special Reminders Governor Ernie Fletcher has signed a proclamation calling for a special session of the Kentucky General Assembly to begin Monday, August 20, 2007, at 4:00pm. The purpose of the session is to provide incentives for energy companies looking to build alternative fuels facilities in Kentucky. "This legislation will help establish Kentucky as a national leader in the field of alternative fuel production," said Governor Fletcher. "Once the first facility locates in Kentucky, other companies are expected to follow. In addition to providing a positive economic impact to the Commonwealth and thousands of jobs, this legislation will pave the way for the development of alternative markets for Kentucky coal. I applaud the members of the General Assembly for their work on this legislation and their recognition of the tremendous window of opportunity this opens for Kentucky and its citizens." When Governor Fletcher formed the Commonwealth Energy Policy Task Force in November 2004, he outlined three principles to guide policy development: maintain Kentucky's low-cost energy; responsibly develop Kentucky's energy resources; and preserve Kentucky's commitment to environmental quality. "The work of the task force, articulated through the Commonwealth's first comprehensive energy strategy and its 54 recommendations, is consistent with these principles," said Governor Fletcher.
