Jeff Sharp, Glasgow, former Casey Co. lawyer, wins award Sharp, now Barren County Attorney, Glasgow, KY, named outstanding County Attorney along with Steve McCollum, Centre College Grad now Henderson County, KY, County Attorney honored by AG Greg Stumbo for outstanding service Attorney General Greg Stumbo today presented awards for the 2007 County Attorneys and Outstanding Commonwealth's at the Kentucky Prosecutors Conference at the Lexington Convention Center. One of the outstanding county attorney, Jeff Sharp, practiced for a time in Liberty, Casey County, KY, and now is county attorney for Barren County, at Glasgow, KY. The 2007 Outstanding County Attorney awards were presented to Jeff Sharp and Charlie McCollum. 2007 Outstanding County Attorney Award Jeff Sharp has served as the Barren County Attorney since 1999. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1984, and from UK's College of Law in 1987. Sharp is currently a member of the Prosecutor's Advisory Council. "Following a short stint working in private practice in Liberty, he returned to Glasgow in 1990 and served as Assistant County Attorney for six years," Stumbo continued. "In 1998, Jeff ran his first successful bid for Barren County Attorney, and is currently serving his third term." Charlie McCollum graduated from Centre College and also received his law degree from the University of Kentucky. He has been Henderson County Attorney since 1986. He was on the founding board of CASA and the Child Victim Task Force. He currently serves on the Daviess/Henderson County Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Council, the Henderson County Criminal Justice Coordination Committee and the Hope center board. Stumbo said, "Charlie is known among the prosecutors for his sophistication in the area of technology and gadgetry. He uses his computer knowledge to more efficiently carry out his duties as County Attorney."The recipients of the 2007 Outstanding Commonwealth's Attorney award are Jack Porter and Chris Cohron. 2007 Outstanding Commonwealth's Attorney Awards has served as Campbell County Commonwealth's Attorney since 2001 and was recently re-elected to a second term without opposition. He began his career in law enforcement as a police officer on the Campbell County Police Department. He attended Northern Kentucky University where he earned an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement, a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration and a law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1986. "As Commonwealth's Attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit, Campbell County, Jack has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases including murder, manslaughter and serious assaults," said Stumbo. He has earned the respect of his fellow prosecutors. In 2006, he served as President of the Commonwealth's Attorneys Association." Chris Cohron is the Commonwealth's Attorney for the 8th Judicial Circuit encompassing Warren County. He was elected to the position in May 2004, previously serving as First Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. Chris is currently President-Elect of the Kentucky Commonwealth's Attorney's Association. He was previously elected as a Director to the National District Attorneys Association. "Chris' diligent work in Warren County includes fighting against elder abuse, preventing Juvenile Delinquency, and prosecuting domestic violence," added Stumbo.
