Adair mother writes of need to help UK KY Childrens Hospital "When your child is sick, even the smallest gestures can mean a lot" Information below on how your 'small gesture' can be made By Malissa McCarol As many of you know the past year or so has been very difficult for our family. My oldest son Michael has had several hospitalizations at the University of Kentucky's Kentucky Children's Hospital for lung related illnesses and complications including having a tracheostomy placed in July of last year. Most of our time is spent in the pediatric intensive care unit where you meet families that are like us having serious recurrent health problems or the ones that are there because of accidents or sickness that threaten their child's life. There are sad circumstances surrounding every child in the picu. We have met a lot of special people there including doctors, nurses and volunteers that bring teddy bears, blankets or University of Kentucky t-shirts and caps for the children. They devote a lot of time to do this to brighten the days of the children and their families. I would like to help these families in their time of need with things that are useful, but most wouldn't think of donating to the hospital. Things like soap, shampoo, lotions, laundry detergent, and snack items. It can be a tremendous financial strain being in the hospital and when your child is sick, even the smallest of gestures can mean an awful lot. If you would like to participate or assist in any way, please let me know. I can be reached at (270) 384-6283 or you can email me at tmmccarol@windstream.net.
