CU to present Bible study preview on Romans, August 2, 2007

By Joan C. McKinney, director of university communications

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. Campbellsville University's School of Theology and Church Relations Council will present the January Bible Study Preview of Romans Thursday, August 2, 2007, from 12:30pm until 8:30pm ET at the Ransdell Chapel on campus.

Dr. Douglas Moo, a Blanchard Professor of New Testament at Wheaton Graduate School in Wheaton, IL, will be the leader of the study.

"We are honored to have Dr. Moo visit our campus and lead the study," said Dr. John Hurtgen, dean of the School of Theology and professor. "Dr. Moo will be previewing Paul's longest and powerful letter to the Romans. We invite everyone to come learn more about this book of the Bible."

Moo has served on the faculty at Wheaton since 2000. For over 20 years, Moo's ministry was based at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL.

Hurtgen said Moo claims inspiration from the great theologian Johann Albrecht Bengel's words: "Apply yourself wholly to the text; apply the text wholly to yourself."

"He has applied himself to the Biblical text by writing commentaries on James, 2 Peter and Jude, and Romans (no less than two commentaries on Romans: NIV Application Commentary and New International Commentary on the New Testament)," said Hurtgen.

He has served on the Committee on Bible Translation, the group of scholars charged with revising the text of the NIV and with producing the TNIV.

Registration for the January Bible Study Preview is from 12:30pm to 1pm ET in the Ransdell Chapel foyer. There will be greetings from the School of Theology, prayer and praise and introduction of Moo at 1pm ET

Sessions are (all Eastern Time) from 1:15pm until 2:30pm , 2:45pm until 4:15pm, 4:30pm until 5:45pm and 6:45pm until 8:15pm. Dinner is from 6pm. until 6:45pm. The sessions end at 8:30pm.
