Prayers urged for Jaremy Austin, injured in July 4 accident Iraq veteran, Purple Heart recipient and Columbia Utilties Commission worker specializing in computer mapping lost control of Honda 1100 Shadow on ride near Barren River Lake on July 4th and is now in Vanderbilt University Hospital. Co-workers ask for prayers By Ed Waggener Jaremy Austin, a worker at the Columbia Utilities Commission is in intensive care at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville as a result of a at about 7pm, July 4, 2007, motorcycle accident near Barren River Lake. Very few details have been learned about the accident, except that Austin lost control of his Honda 1100 Shadow, crashed, suffered severe injuries, and was taken to TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow. He was to have been flown to Vanderbilt, but high winds and foggy weather had grounded medical helicopters, and Austin was taken by ground vehicle to Nashville. "He's been with us for nine years, except for service in Iraq," Columbia Utilities General Manager Jim Williams said today. Austin is a highly respected employee at CUC, where he has worked since starting as a 17 year old Adair County High School student. Austin works in the utilities computer mapping operation, Williams said. Williams said that Austin is considered like family by his co-workers. "We're asking everyone to pray for him," he said. "If they want to send cards or gifts they may be left at the Columbia Utilities office," Williams said. "Everybody here is just devastated by the accident," Williams said. "I think of him like a son. In fact, I've told my wife if we had another son I'd want him to be just like Jaremy." The latest word from VU was somewhat encouraging, Williams said. "We'll be keeping the media informed." Mr. Williams said that everyone is praying for Austin at the the Columbia Utilities Commission. "We're asking the community to offer prayers too. I think they help. Williams, who is also a pastor, said, adding, "I know they do." This story was posted on 2007-07-06 19:27:03
