Secretary Nighbert to visit Scott Hill, Neat Hollow Road Emergency funds are needed to fix dangerous situation on Ray Scott Hill; funds needed to blacktop a one-mile, little known jewel of a road, CR 1029. "a nice shortcut," Judge Melton calls it. A trip to try to speed up KY 55 South Bridge will be worked in, too. By Ed Waggener Judge Executive Ann Melton has received confirmation that Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Bill Nighbert is scheduled be in Columbia on Monday, July 16, 2007, for a drive around Adair County to inspect ugent highway needs. At the top of the list is assistance to widen a dangerous curve on CR 1702, Scott Hill Road, on a stretch better known as Ray Scott Hill. "There is a lot of logging going on there," Judge Melton said, "and it's not safe for cars when they meet trucks loaded with logs on the hill." Judge Melton has already included the stop in a request for guardrails. The road widening request is in addition. The roadway needing widening is .929 miles long, Lisa Lee, the Judge's Administrative Assistant said. This project is Adair County Magisterial District 1. The tour with Secretary Nighbert will also include a visit to Neat Hollow Road, CR 1029. She's seeking $90,000 to blacktop the length of the road. The picturesque byway is a one-mile connector between KY 206 at Ella and Little Cake Road, CR 1027. The road has high residential density, with 12 homes, Judge Melton said, and it serves as a farm-to-market road. "And just on the practical side," she said, "it's will be a really nice short-cut for more people who might not use it as a gravelled lane." Neat Hollow Road is also in District 1. The Judge's office said that the Judge will put in a plea to speed up the construction of the bridge on KY 55 between Tupman's Pond and Old Zion. "It's such a dangerous situation," Lisa Lee said, "Judge Melton is hoping Secretary Nighbert will have time to see this location, firsthand." This story was posted on 2007-06-28 08:16:52
