Adair May 2007 unemployment best in LCADD 10 county LCADD chart with this story Adair County's unemployment improved in May 2007, the latest data available from Kentucky Education Cabinet, with 5.6% on the unemployment rolls, down from 6.0% from the previous month. The 2007 rate was up 0.1% from the May 2006 figures. The 5.6% rate was third best in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, and was very close to Clinton County's 5.2% and almost identical to the rate in neighboring Taylor County (5.5%). The county had 1.3% more out of work than the U.S. average unememployment of 4.3%, but was almost as good as the Kentucky average of 5.3%. In all, 8,395 of the county 8,895 civilian labor force had jobs. Five hundred were looking for work. McCreary County, often among the very worst in employment figures, was ranked 8th worst, after Jackson, Clay, Magoffin, harlan, Owlsey, and Wolfe Counties. Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks. The statistics in this news release are not seasonally adjusted to allow for comparisons between United States, state and counties figures.
