$13,000 Grant will help Arnolds Landing, Mt. Carmel

Adair County tourism, recreation, gets a boost from Governor Fletcher
Adair County Judge Ann Melton has been notified from Governor Ernie Fletcher's office that $13,000 in a matching grant has been granted for to extend the ramps at Arnold's Landing and Mt. Carmel on Green River Lake.

The money, a Land, Air and Water grant from the Governor's Office for Local Development (GOLD) will also be used to build picnic areas at Arnold's Landing, and to provide trash receptacles at both Mt. Carmel and Arnold's Landing.

Mt. Carmel will also get new lighting. Because of lack of electricity at present, lights could not be installed at this time at Arnold's Landing.

It's not a huge amount, she said, but it will provide a major boost to recreation for Adair County as well as help Adair County's growing tourist trade.

"We'll be needing volunteers to help with the work," Judge Melton said. "It's a matching grant, but the County can match with in-kind services. We don't have to put up $13,000 in money," she said.

The match will also come from work at the recreation areas by county workers and inmates, she said.

"We'll be announcing volunteer work days in the next few weeks," Judge Melton said. "I expect the check to arrive around the first of August," she said.

Judge Melton expressed thanks to others who worked on the project, including Lisa Lee, Sixth District Magistrate Joe Rogers, in whose districts the improvements are located, and Nick Hazel of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District.
