ENCORE back from triumphant Nashville trip Choral group gets rousing ovations in appearances at America Sings, BB Kings, Hardrock Cafe, sees sights and music shrines of Nashville, helps feed homeless, and returns safely with unforgettable memories By Patty Jones, Principal, Colonel Wm. Casey Elementary School The elementary show choir, ENCORE, performed at America Sings in Nashville, TN this past weekend, May 4-6. The trip was a tremendous success for the group made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students from John Adair Intermediate School and Adair County Elementary School. This was the 3rd trip to an America Sings event for choral director, Cyndi Crowder. America Sings!, Inc. is a non-profit music festival and special event-producing organization founded by choreographer, writer and arranger John Jacobson, who serves as its volunteer president. Abig part of the event is its ties to a charitable organization called, "Share the Hope". In addition to singing at the event the choir members participated in collecting non-perishable items for Nashville homeless shelters as well as preparing peanut and jelly sandwiches to be delivered. While in Nashville the students got to see some of the sights and points of interest of the city.On Friday the group visited a replica of Ft. Nashborough, the orginal settlement of the city. They also toured the Country Music Hall of Fame and the historic Studio B recording studio. While in Studio B the group performed in the very room where Elvis Presley, Dolly Partin, Chet Atkins, and other famous country music performers recorded a majority of their hits. Of course the main event was the festival itself on Saturday. The group topped off the trip with a cruise, meal, and show on the General Jackson riverboat down the Cumberland River on Sunday. The students, along with an entourage of parents, grandparents, and chaperones represented our community well. Their performance was excellent and they received a rousing round of applause. As if that wasn't enought, two of ENCORE's members were selected to be singing and speaking soloist in the grand finale of America Sings on Saturday evening. Abigail Thompson and Ashley Simpson both were chosen to participate in the stage performance with John Jacobson. This story was posted on 2007-05-07 04:47:39
