Avis Withers, 74, retired Columbia businessman

Mr. Withers was the head of a large, respected Adair County family

Avis Withers, 74, of 33 South Bramlett ST, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:45 P. M. at Summit Manor Nursing Home Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 1:00pm CT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 200 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Hugh Withers and Bro. Sam Burris the officiating clergy.


He was born February 19, 1933, the son of the late Rufus and Flora Meece Withers of Russell County, KY.

Survived by the following:
  • Four daughters: Treva Sparks and her husband Richard, Carolyn Burton and her husband William all of Columbia, KY: Sherry Curry and her husband Robert of Frankfort, KY: and Sandy Janes and her husband Richie of Gradyville, KY.

  • Four sons: Andy Withers and his wife Debbie; Bro. Bobby Withers and his wife Lesa, Billy Withers and his wife Jeanie; and Terry Withers and his wife Melinda all of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Ernest Withers of Louisville, KY, and Johnnie Withers of Russell Springs, KY

  • One sister: Geneva Johnson of Louisville, KY

  • A special friend, Mildred Hunt

  • Eighteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren

  • And several nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends
Mr. Withers was of the Baptist Faith. He was retired after many years in business as a licensed plumber.

Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after after 4:00pm CT, Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
