Obituary: Jake Smith, 85, member, Cane Valley Baptist Church

Mr. Smith was the head of a large, respected family and was a farmer of the Cane Valley Community

Jake Smith, 85, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home formerly of the Cane Valley Community, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 12:30am CT at Summit Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral service Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



He was born New Year's Day, 1922, the son of the late Robert Clark and Mattie Ann Bault Smith of Adair County.

He is survived by his wife,Mildred Ferrill Smith, Columbia, KY, and the following:

  • One daughter: Charlotte Ramsey and her husband John, Glasgow, KY

  • One brother: Benny Smith, Columbia, KY

  • One sister: Earline Hancock, Louisville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Greg Hackett and his wife Holly; Melanie Murphy and her husband Chris, Sara Ramsey; and Laura Beth Ramsey

  • Four great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Hackett, and by two brothers and one sister, Bobby Smith, Tommy Smith and Cornelia Wright.

Mr. Smith was a member of Cane Valley Baptist Church, and a retired farmer.

Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, Columbia, KY.

The family request visitation Wednesday, March 28, 2007, from 4:00 to 8:00pm CT and anytime Thursday morning, March 29, 2007.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
