New Lexington Mayor, Meade Judge have strong Adair ties

Both the Mayor-elect of Lexington and the Judge-elect of Meade County have blood-kin ties to Adair County.

Jim Newberry, the 49-year old attorney who will be Lexington's next Mayor, is the grandson of the late Will R. and Gertrude Walker, and a first cousin of former Adair County Judge R.L. Walker.

Harry Craycroft, the judge elect of Meade County, is the husband of the former Marilyn Walker. Mrs. Craycroft is the daughter of Evelyn Walker, Columbia, KY and the late William Richard Walker. She is the sister of Billy Walker and former Adair County Judge R.L. Walker. Judge-elect Craycroft is a retired educator.

Jim Newberry, the new Lexington Mayor-elect, is a 49 year old attorney and a managing partner in the law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant, & Combs. He is the son of the late James H. Newberry and Carrie Walker Newberry of Hiseville, Barren County, KY.

Glasgowan (and therefore Barren Countian) Jim Gray, who is CEO of Gray Construction Company, formerly headquartered in Glasgow, and now a Lexington firm, was the recipient of the highest vote total for the Lexington Council. With that achievement, he will be vice-Mayor of Lexington. The Grays have been strong supporters of Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY.

Among those attending the victory party for Mayor-elect Newberry election night were Marsha and Richard L. Walker, Mary Evelyn Walker, Louise Brock, and Helen and James Kemp.
