LETTER: B.J. Fudge writes about a tragedy, a love story

I HOPE YOU DIDNT MISS THE LOVE STORY

By Billy Joe Fudge

What an unspeakable tragedy occurred just outside Philadelphia last week.

What a calamity to come upon the non-violent, benevolent Amish Community and families of that area.

What a calamity to come upon the family, friends, and neighbors of the man who committed this horrible deed.

What a horrific example of what can happen to the human entity, the human individual when the wounds of life are not healed.

Emotional, spiritual wounds which are barely visible and almost imperceptible.

Yet beneath the surface, the flesh and fiber of moral strength and restraint are being consumed by the infections of spiritual depravity, moral corruption, selfishness, self condemnation and humanistic fallacies.

In spite of the thousands of doctor of psychiatry, psychology, and divinity diplomas being issued each year there seems to be a continuing deterioration of the human condition and of the ability to restrain selfish, immoral ambitions toward the rest of defenseless humanity.

Here is the love story

Where is the love story you ask. I hope you didn't mess it. The love story is the Amish story in this particular case.

I know many of you don't agree with the lifestyle choices of the Amish. I know many of you don't understand and or support the religious beliefs of the Amish. I know there are immoral individuals among the Amish.

However, the acts of heroic forgiveness which poured forth from Amish individuals, Amish families, and the Amish community was and is a love story. They showed the world which they choose to exclude themselves from that true love is not just "a strong positive emotion of regard and affection," but rather a sacrificing of one's own desire and needs for the well being of others.

There will be no news conferences, no blame game, no beefing up the police force, no arming of the citizenry, and no law suits.

There will be memories of the girls and thanks given for the time they all had together. There will be memories of the sacrifice the older girls made by offering themselves to be killed first, hoping to save the younger girls from the same fate.

There will be prayers for the families of the living and the dead. There will be forgiveness and healing from the inside out. There will be no infection left under the surface eating away their humanity or spirituality. There will be only nailed-scared hands of the sacrifice of love. True love, pure love, life giving love, agape love, Gods love.
