Halloween 2006: LWC to host safe Halloween

13th consecutive year Lindsey Wilson has hosted event for local children

By Emily Harlin, LWC writer

Local trick-or-treaters will get candy early when they attend Lindsey Wilson College's annual "Safe Halloween" on October 24, 2006.

Parents and guardians can bring children to the Lindsey Wilson Cralle Student Union Building lobby from 6-8:00pm CT on Tuesday, October 24, 2006.

Lindsey Wilson students will lead children and their guardians through decorated residence halls where residents will hand out candy from their rooms.

Safe Halloween is part of residence life, activities program

This will be the 13th consecutive year Lindsey Wilson has hosted "Safe Halloween." This year it is sponsored by the colleges residence life and student activities programs, and it is one of the most popular events of the year.

Men's Area Coordinator Andy McAllister said the event is always a big hit in the community.

"The community gives a lot to Lindsey Wilson, and what better way to give back than to invite them to campus for a night of family fun and candy," McAllister said.

"Safe Halloween" lives up to its name, said Womens Area Coordinator Katie Graebner.

Lindsey is building a partnership with community

"The event allows community members to come to campus for an event that is safe and fun," she said. "'Safe Halloween' shows that Lindsey Wilson cares about building a partnership with the community and is continuously working to make that relationship stronger.

"We have responsible students who lead the tours and make sure every child is accounted for. We also make sure students keep their eyes open and help children walk through the dorms safely."

Lindsey Wilson students also have fun meeting community members and seeing children dressed in Halloween costumes.

Students compete to create best Halloween atmosphere

"'Safe Halloween' is so popular among our students because the dorms compete against each other to create the best Halloween atmosphere to share with children," McAllister said.

Graebner said students have as much fun as the trick-or-treaters.

"Students love to be creative as they decorate the halls, and they love to see the smiles on the kids faces as they walk through. Its enjoyable for everyone involved," she said.
