Charity Ferguson named Director of Admissions at LWC By Emily Harlan, Lindsey Wilson College writer Photo accompanies this story Lindsey Wilson College has promoted Assistant Director of Admissions Charity Ferguson to director of admissions. The college also hired two new admissions counselors: Tiffany Cloud and Travis Smith.< Fergusons responsibilities include recruiting students from Southcentral Kentucky, organizing events, and supervising a team of four admissions counselors. As admissions counselors, Cloud and Smith are responsible for working with prospective students and guiding them and their families through the admissions process. Ferguson, who has served in Lindsey Wilsons admissions office for five years, said experience as the colleges assistant director of admissions prepared her for her new job. "My work experience enabled me to become a more effective communicator, which is invaluable when others look to you for guidance," said Ferguson, who is a 2001 graduate of the college with a bachelor of arts degree in communication. She also holds a master of arts degree in communication from Western Kentucky University. "I am excited about the job because I have the opportunity to share my passion for helping students with other professionals, Ferguson said. We hope to continue the tradition of a strong and successful admissions program, as well as become innovators. Students are constantly changing and I fell challenged to keep pace with their needs. Dean of Admissions Traci Pooler said Ferguson is a natural leader for the admissions office. "Charity has been a silent leader in the admissions office for a number of years," Pooler said. Charity stays connected to students lives the entire time they are a student at Lindsey Wilson and beyond. She exemplifies Lindsey Wilson's mission of active caring and Christian concern on a daily basis." Cloud works with students from Cumberland County, Ky., and Louisville, Ky. She said she is excited about forming relationships with prospective students and their families. "The admissions team builds relationships with students all year long," she said. "We get to know students and students get to know us. At larger schools, people just pass the students names down a chain of people. Cloud said her time as a Lindsey Wilson student gave her a good perspective of admissions work. "Being a student filled me with passion for Lindsey Wilsons mission," said Cloud, who graduated from Lindsey Wilson in 2004 with a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling. "Lindsey Wilson quickly became a home to me, and to share my experience with others is an incredible opportunity. Pooler said Cloud is mature beyond her years. "Tiffany gets the big picture of just how much she has the capability to make a difference in a persons life," Pooler said. "Tiffany is a hard worker, bright, confident and very capable of doing this job well." Smith is a 2005 graduate who works with prospective students and their families from Western Kentucky, Pulaski County, Rockcastle County and Laurel County. He said his bachelor of arts degree in psychology gives him insight into students needs. "Learning about human behavior, whether it be thoughts, feelings or perceptions is important, and to say that my degree prepared me for this job would be an understatement,"Smith said. "College not only feeds you information, it exposes you to different cultures and new people." Pooler said Smith brings many strengths to the program. "Travis open-mindedness, problem-solving abilities and lack of inhibition when talking to students stand out as positive leadership qualities," Pooler said. "Travis is prepared to do all he can to help others. This story was posted on 2006-10-04 18:03:09
