Weavings, pottery by Berea couple on display at Begley Gallery Works can be viewed at Lucretia C. Begley Galley in W.W. Slider Humanities Center, Lindsey Wilson College, Mondays through Fridays until September 29, 2006 Photo accompanies this storyBy Emily Harlan, LWC writer Art works by husband and wife John and Sue Martin are now on display at Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY. Exhibit features colorful tapestries, pottery works The exhibit, Weavings and Pottery, features colorful woven tapestries and pottery works. The Martins own Martin Studios in Berea, KY, where they host workshops, teach art classes and work with local crafts organizations. The show is on display from 8:00am to 4pm CT in the Lucretia C. Begley Gallery in the W. W. Slider Humanities Center through September 29. 2006. John works with clay to create pottery pieces such as vases, bowls and teapots. In his artist statement, John writes that his work is an aesthetic experience . Touch of hand is powerful creative symbol, he says The touch of the hand is a powerful creative symbol, he writes. Each work is a drama unfolding giving a narrative of process in moments and in memories. Sue works with hand-dyed fiber and clay to weave colorful tapestries. She taught art classes in Livingston County, KY, before moving east and opening Martin Studios in Berea, KY. John received a master of fine arts degree from Southern Illinois University. Sue received a master of art degree from Western Kentucky University. The Lucretia C. Begley Gallery is open to the public from 8:00am to 4:00pm CT Monday- Friday.
