Feedback. Veterans List Mail: Tuesday, May 30, 2006 update These sponsors make it possible to share this listing with the public over the Memorial Day holiday weekend 2006: Barger Insurance Agency, Burton Ace Hardware & Rental, Murphy Well Service, NAPA Auto Parts Columbia, Campbellsville and Russell Springs locations, and E.P. Waggener & Sons Booksellers (See each sponsor's contact and location information at the end of the Veterans List For complete, updated Veterans List, Click Here. By Ed Waggener Many more people have contacted us over the past 24 hours with new additions for the Veterans List. Robin Spoon sent the name of her grandfather, Wayne Dixon, with a nice note, "Please add Wayne Dixon to the list of Veterans. He received a Purple Heart in WWII. I am his grand daughter. He passed away in 1997." The name is added, and we're happy that Robin Spoon gave us the information about her grandfather's Purple Heart. One veteran, who asked that his name not be mentioned, wrote a suggestion that the veterans who were killed in action be listed in bold face type. That's being started. If you want to send a prompt on any particular family, feel free to do so. And a note on emails: We assume all messages to ColumbiaMagazine are for publication. But if you don't want to be quoted, just let us know, as the contributor of the idea above requested. Family breakouts added There are also some family breakouts, with headings for those family names with five or more listings. It's just started. We're trying to make the distinctions as soon as possible, but feel free to prompt us. Yes, please send names of female veterans Rejeena Brock Hadley wrote, "Additional veterans living or buried in Adair County, Kentucky. Even though I am a female I am still a veteran of the US Army.Rejeena Brock Hadley US Army 8384.This is my cousin that passed away last year.Ronald Dale Brock, Vietnam, Interment Haven Hill 2005. Thank you. " Thanks. Rejeena Hadley's name makes at least two female veterans on the list. If anyone knows of other female veterans, please send them. Adair County Revolutionary War veteran name received E.H. Lepiarczyk reached back to the Revolutionary War to add William Perryman, as well as new names from other wars. He wrote, "William Perryman 17591854, Virginia militia, War of the American RevolutionDaniel Marion Grider 18881949, US Army WWIWalter Edwin Grider 19332005, US ArmyWilliam Perryman is my ancestor. He lived in Adair County during the early 19th century. William Perryman has many descendants living in Adair County today." A note on emails; don't hesitate to send again Mike Akin had to resend the name of his father. He wrote, "Ralph B. Akin, is a WWII Veteran." He had originally sent the name on Friday, and we haven't figured out what happened to the message, but it brings up a point: If you email something to us and get no response, please do as Mr. Akin did and send again with a reminder of the failed message. Or, give a call at 270-384-0612 or 3979. We appreciate the courtesy Mr. Akin extended by resending the information. Carol Goodin Burton Parker sent four names, along with some notes on the names and a note Linda and I appreciate very much. She wrote, "I am belatedly adding some names to the list of Adair County veterans. My first husband who is now deceased Norman R. Burton served in the the U. S. Army in Europe. His older brother, Lawrence Burton, Jr. served in Korea. My uncle, Henry Goodin, served in World War I and World War II. My cousin, Morris Pike, served in the U. S. Navy.I think it's very nice that you and Linda are working toward compiling a complete list of Adair County veterans.Thank you, Carol Parker." Again, thanks. Bobbie Keltner sent four names we really appreciated getting. I had just watch George Keltner lay a wreath at the VFW Memorial Day ceremonies on Sunday, but hadn't noticed that he was not listed in the Veterans List. Mrs. Keltner corrected that omission, and her letter pointed out the need to distinguish between those with very similar names. We're trying not to duplicate, but on a couple of occasions we have assumed a duplication when there were more than one veteran with a very similar name. Mrs. Keltner's submission made it easy to know that there are two George Keltners who are veterans, and she presented the distinctions. Mrs. Keltner wrote, "Please add these names to your Veteran's list, George T. Keltner WWII and Korea, US Navy; George Howard Keltner, US AIR FORCE, Korea: Harold David Finn. Korea, US Air Force; Wallace Thompson "Tom: Hatcher. WWII US Navy deceased. Travis Scott WWII US Army deceased." This story was posted on 2006-05-30 05:10:51
