CM Feedback: Patriotic Knifley: Being 4F diminished you Uncle Jodie was "stone blind," but memorized eye chart to qualify for combat By Richard Hovious Hitler just THOUGHT he had problems at Stalingrad. He's fortunate he didn't invade Knifley---the war would have shortened considerably!! I distinctly remember most everyone from 18 to 35 waving a paper proudly yelling "GREETINGS" (the salutation on draft notices). Nothing diminished your stature more than being called a 4F (which also resulted in several rather uncomplimentary names I won't mention). Being physically, intellectually or "other" unqualified was easily overcome! My Uncle Jodie was "stone blind" in his left eye(smallpox). He saw plenty of action in the South Pacific by memorizing the eye chart. Wesley Goodin was "stone deaf." His drill sergeant probably developed a record number of ulcers. Marshall Chelf had a severe hearing problem. I think he served the entire war.I didn't make it in time for WWII but managed to elbow my way in at 13 and "do my bit" during the "Police Action" in Korea. George Bush DEFINITELY needs Knifley!
