The Tate Clan By Narda Tate A long time ago, I married a young man with a convoluted connection to some of his relatives. He was only 5 years old when his biological father was killed in an automobile accident. His mother, after a while, remarried. Steve explained the relationship to me very carefully and I was finally able to piece together that his stepfather was the son of the brother of the husband of his biological father's sister. It was fun learning how to properly address Christmas cards. Such is the Tate clan. But let me introduce you to some of the other Tates: A clan meeting had been scheduled and all the members arrived just as they should have. However, Agi Tate was upset because, even though second cousin was a well-known and popular TV personality, Agi Tate didn't think second cousin should be allowed to attend as he was just a Common Tater. His wife, Sweet Tater - well her skin sure looked a lot different than the 'real' Irish Taters. It might be better if they were excused from the gathering. Irri Tate kept bringing up points that were not related to the agenda items and he made annoying smacking sounds with his lips. The other Tates were about to throw him into the pond just to get rid of him. The twins, Medi Tate and Cogi Tate were of the opinion that everyone should take some time to think about the agenda items and perhaps, even sit in a circle on the floor with their legs crossed, emptying their minds to gain clarity. Hesi Tate liked what the twins had suggested and felt that there should be no rush to embrace the new agenda. Imi Tate was totally against all this new-fangled stuff. She wanted the clan to be like the other clans and to not stand out as different, but to blend in and be a part of the whole. Finally, great grandfather Poten Tate got up and gave them all a good thrashing and sat them down demanding silence. With his might, wisdom and oratory skills, he convinced them all to work together and to accomplish the goals set before them. Finally, the vote was taken and the agenda passed unanimously for the good of the whole clan. Sigh! Such is the Tate clan. You have probably met a few of them from time to time.
