Food Pantry crew brings attention to Hunger Action Month By Cathy Abell Volunteers at the Adair County Food Pantry wore orange on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 to bring attention to the designation of September as Hunger Action Month. The food pantry has been a source of food for many throughout the community for several years. Robert Flowers, volunteer, remembered the food panty starting in the 1980's and initially being housed in the basement of the Columbia Christian Church. The current location is 203 South Monroe Street and is open each Tuesday 9am - 12noonCT. Food pantry volunteers distribute boxes of food to 300-350 individuals/families per month. Michele Fruth, Director, noted that the pantry also distributes commodity boxes to sixty pre-qualified Senior citizens the third Friday of each month. Tuesday, Sept. 29, is designated as Hunger Action Day. Everyone can participate by wearing orange, the official color for hunger relief. This story was posted on 2026-09-01 15:46:19
