BRIGHT Kentucky to visit Columbia Aug 5 The City of Columbia is excited to host the BRIGHT Kentucky Program's visit to Columbia on August 5, 6, and 7, 2026. BRIGHT Kentucky is designed to build the capacity of next-generation leaders (average age 21-40) in the Appalachian region of Kentucky to innovate, collaborate, and advance community and economic development. The Columbia-focused portion of the event, which occurs on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, will include a "Welcome to our Community" by Mayor Hoots, State Representative Amy Neighbors, State Senator Max Wise, and Duane Bonifer, Assistant to the President for Communications and Marketing at Lindsey Wilson University. On Wednesday afternoon, several local businesses in the downtown area will remain open so that visitors can tour and visit some of our shops. They will be staying in Columbia that evening at the new Sleep Inn in New Columbia. "We urge everyone if you see one of these visitors in Columbia or Adair County that date to welcome them to our community," stated Mayor Hoots. "This is a perfect time to showcase our town and neighborhood to others." BRIGHT Kentucky engages bright, entrepreneurial minds from all sectors and regions to offer non-partisan, ethical leadership training, expanded networks, and mentors designed especially for residents of the 54 Kentucky counties of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Since the program launched in 2019, approximately 200 young professionals have graduated from BRIGHT and are making a deeper impact in their communities and benefitting the small and emerging businesses they either own or are employed.
