Jets Over Kentucky week begins Saturday By Mig Feuser / The Adair Progress In just a few weeks, the skies over neighboring Taylor County will again be filled with the sound, speed and spectacle of radio-controlled jet aircraft, as Jets Over Kentucky returns to the Taylor County Airport in Campbellsville from Saturday, July 11, through Saturday, July 18. The event, promoted as the "World's Grandest Jet Event," has become one of the signature summer attractions in Central Kentucky and one of the largest gatherings of radio-controlled jet pilots and aircraft anywhere in the world. For one full week, Campbellsville becomes a meeting place for aviation fans, model aircraft builders, pilots, families and curious spectators who come to watch highly detailed jet models take to the air. Jets Over Kentucky is not a small hobby gathering. In past years, the event has drawn hundreds of pilots and more than 600 jets to the Taylor County Airport, with participants and visitors coming from across the United States and from other countries. The Taylor County Tourist Commission describes the event as one of the world's premier radio-controlled jet events, featuring demonstrations, pilot competitions, community activities and a full week of aviation excitement. For Adair County residents, it is also a major event right next door. Campbellsville is only a short drive up the road, and each year many local families, aviation enthusiasts and day-trippers from Columbia and across Adair County make their way to Taylor County to see the show. With the size of the event continuing to grow, hundreds of visitors from Adair County are expected to join the crowds again this year. The aircraft themselves are the stars of the week. Many of the jets are large, detailed scale models of military and civilian aircraft. Some are turbine-powered, some are electric ducted fan aircraft, and all are flown by experienced pilots who spend countless hours building, maintaining and practicing with their aircraft. For spectators, the result is a show that looks and sounds much bigger than the words "model airplane" might suggest. Visitors can expect a steady rhythm of takeoffs, passes, turns, landings and aerobatic flying throughout the event. The airport setting allows spectators to get a close look at the aircraft on the ground and then watch them perform in the open sky. For children, it can be a first introduction to aviation. For older visitors, it may bring back memories of air shows, military aircraft or childhood model-building. For serious RC enthusiasts, Jets Over Kentucky is one of the places to be. The event has also become an economic boost for the region. Hotels, restaurants, gas stations and local businesses in Taylor County benefit from the influx of pilots, crews and spectators, while nearby counties also see visitors traveling through or making side trips. For Adair County, it is another reminder that major events in neighboring communities are often shared regional events, bringing people together across county lines. Jets Over Kentucky will be held at the Taylor County Airport, located at 360 Airport Road in Campbellsville. The official 2026 dates are July 11 through July 18.
