LETTER: Knifley history reminds Knifleyan of best friend ever

Buddy Knifley was Richard Hovious' first cousin, as well

My nostalgia cup runneth over! I enjoyed immensely the piece on Knifley Schools

I remember (as adults) about half the class of '04 and most all the class of 1910.

I suspect most all of us that grew up around Knifley during the 30's and 40's remember all the veterans.

The biggest shock for me was the 1948-1949 photo.

I would have been in that. I ranked in age just between C.R. (Buddy) Knifley, top center, my first cousin and best friend ever, and Billy Burr Humphress, third row from top center.

The reason I was "missing" was that I had completed U.S. Navy boot camp and was about mid way through Aviation Electronics School when this was taken. I had reached the ripe old age of 14 by then.

Since I didn't worry a lot or have any reason to look older, the Navy must have been pretty desperate back in '48. Although I haven't seen most of them in almost 60 years I think I could identify most.

Best to all.

Richard Hovious
