Mother is 100 today! By Phillip Wood Coffey Venie is 100 today - toils and tears through the years - but still smiling. Lost her Mom, "Alwood" when she was 14 - took reins of household. She and 'Coffey man', "Storm and a Runaway" - she was sixteen. Her husband Elroy drafted - oft to Texas for Infantry training-She 17. First bundle of joy (Roy) arrives when she is eighteen and a - half. Mom and baby in Clarksville Tennessee - Dad, Camp Maxey in Texas. Elroy given a three-day pass to see his son - Doctor so very clever. Combat, survives somehow, sees son again two months shy of Two. The family moves into 'Shotgun House' - tenant hand for cousin. "Best years of his life" - no combat - home free with wife and baby. Moves to a pre-civil-war house nearby - first girl Margaret arrives. Decides to move to higher ground, 'Keltner Ridge' - fall of '49. Big headed son, 'Phil' - 10 pounds, four ounces - comes forth in 'Keltner', '53. Daughter, Deborah, a few years later - arrives in Glasgow, Ky. Clinic. All six of the family sharing love, joys, failures, strife, pain - together.
