Adair Band receives Reserve Grand Champion at TCI By Amber Hobaugh The Adair County High School Marching Band participated this past weekend in the annual Taylor County Marching Invitational. The event was stacked with an astounding representation of young musicians from across the Bluegrass as 17 bands traveled to perform. Adair County High School earned First Place in Class AAA, and made a clean sweep in prelims, receiving awards for Best Color Guard and Best Percussion, on their way to earning Reserve Grand Champion in the finals. Being represented in Class A: Cumberland County High School, Washington County High School, Green County High School and Somerset High School. Participating in Class AA: Edmonson County High School, Hart County High School, Russellville High School, Henry County High School and Marion County High School. Performing in Class AAA: Adair County High School, North Bullitt High School and Elizabethtown High School. Showing for Class AAAA- Meade County High School, Southwestern High School and West Jessamine High School. During Preliminary Awards, top honors were bestowed to the best in each class and are listed below. In Class A Awards: 1st place Washington County, 2nd place Metcalfe County and 3rd place Somerset High School. With Washington County making a clean sweep and also receiving awards in Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. For Class AA: 1st place Hart County, 2nd place Edmonson County and 3rd place Henry County. The award for Best Percussion went to Henry County and the award for Best Color Guard went to Edmonson County. Class AAA: 1st place Adair County, 2nd place Elizabethtown High School and 3rd place North Bullitt High School. Adair also made a clean sweep in prelims receiving awards for Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. Class AAAA: 1st place Meade County, 2nd place West Jessamine and 3rd place Southwestern High School. West Jessamine took home the award for Best Percussion and Meade County was awarded Best Color Guard. In this competition only the top 10 scoring bands advanced to Finals later that evening. Honorable mentions from local bands who performed in Prelims but did not advance to Finals are: Campbellsville High School receiving 4th place in Class A, Green County High School who received 5th place in Class A, Cumberland County High School who received 6th place in Class A, and Marion County High School who received 5th place in Class AA. Another notable mention is that the Hart County Marching Band is under the direction of two of Adair County's former Assistant Directors; Cameron Johnson- Director and Jordan Willis- Assistant Director, as well as having Adair alumni J.J Butler on their staff. Finals performances are always a fan favorite as, in my opinion, there is always something a little more magical about the way the stadium lights illuminate the field. The flags and uniforms seem a little brighter and the music just seems to resonate throughout the air more and hit a little different. Following Finals, while judges tallied scores, the crowd received a performance from the hosting band Taylor County High School and also special guests the Campbellsville University Marching Tigers who electrified the crowd with their show titled "Queen." Awarded Grand Champion by .5 of a point, for the event was Washington County High School who also received the award for Best Percussion. Reserve Grand Champion went to Adair County High School. 3rd place and Best Color Guard went to Elizabethtown High School. 4th place went to Hart County. 5th place was awarded to Metcalfe County. Meade County received 6th place. Edmonson took home the award for 7th place. Henry County finished in 8th place. Somerset High School placed 9th and Campbellsville High School rounded out the scores for the 10 finalists. The Adair County High School Marching Band season moves forward to October 18, 2025, when the band will travel to South Laurel High School to perform in the KMBC Regional Class AAA-East (Quarter-Finals).
