Small business owners have more options with Micro Loan Fund Online loan applications can be downloaded now By Cheryl Meadows Communications Director, SKED The new loan fund is available to business owners in Adair and 41 other southeastern Kentucky Counties which comprise the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation service area. The regions small business owners now have a more cost-effective way to finance their dreams, thanks to a below-market interest rate loan fund designed especially for them.Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED) is constantly working to revise and redesign its loan funds to meet the needs of area small business owners and entrepreneurs. The non-profit lender has done just that with its new Micro Loan Fund. Small business owners are making a huge impact in the states economy today. That statement is documented by a January 2006 report released by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. Nine of every 10 businesses in Kentucky are small businesses According to the report, nine of every 10 businesses in Kentucky are small businesses. In SKEDs 42-county service region alone, there are a reported 13,308 businesses which employ fewer than 50 employees. Thats some 78,000 jobs created by the small business community, according to the report based on the states February 2005 employment numbers. SKED has established an online application process to provide potential lenders with the information they need from the comfort of their home or business. The online application can be downloaded at www.southeastkentucky.com. Click on the Financial Assistance button and look for information about the Micro Loan Fund. The online application creates a faster turnaround time for the loans processing and enables SKED staff to assess applicants in a more timely and effective manner. We are well aware of the impact the regions small business owners have on the economy, said SKED Business Development Specialist Mike Bush. Thats why weve designed what we believe will be a new avenue of financial assistance that will involve less paperwork and time and help our small business owners create even more impact in the region in the coming years.
