Adair County Judge Jerry Vaughan and Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair accepted the First Place Trophy for counties in its class for trash collected in the October 2005 cleanup drive.

The award was received at a PRIDE meeting Monday, January 30, 2006, at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

Adair County joined Owsley, Class 1; Johnson, Class 3, and Laurel, Class 3, among the the counties who won the top award. The classes are based on population, with Class 1 being the smallest county.

Morgan County was the runner-up to Adair County in Class 2.

In winning, Adair County had the highest number of points based on the number of volunteers who participated, the number of miles of road cleaned, and the total amount of trash collected.

Representative Hal Rogers addressed the gathering.
