Adair County team to compete in National Quiz Bowl Tournament From Dwight Kidder National Academic Quiz Tournaments Following their successful regular season, the Quick Recall Quiz Bowl team from Adair County High School will test their skills on a national stage on Friday, May 24, 2024. The team will represent their school in a 320-team National Academic Quiz Tournaments' High School National Championship Tournament. The team from Adair County consists of Emma Compton, Sophie Eaton, Skyler Huff, Natalea Kaylor, Benjamin Kingery, Alex Perkins, Annabelle Robertson, Trey Stephens, Madison Turner, D. J. Vertrees, Bailey Watts, and Andrew Zinati. The team is coached by Kate Proctor and Dalton Robertson. The team comes in with some nationals experience. Alex Perkins and Trey Stephens played the 2024 Individual Player National Championship Tournament in Rosemont, IL, and Trey Stephens also played the 2023 Individual Player National Championship Tournament, also in Rosemont, IL. Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students. It is the national version of the game that is often locally called Quick Recall. Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports, and popular culture. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Participation in quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests. Adair County has attended the High School National Championship Tournament three times before. Most recently, in 2011, they made the playoffs and finished in 49th place. Tournament results will be updated throughout the three days of competition at www.naqt.com/go/stats/14702, so everyone can follow along. This story was posted on 2024-05-20 14:33:46
