Martha C. Howard, 85, retired Adair County teacher

Her career in education spanned 32 years
Martha C. Howard, 85, 120 Guthrie Street, Columbia, KY, died Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisvile, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White and Bro. Raymond Martin officiating.


She was a daughter of the late J.P. and Margaret Jones Clayton.

She was a member of Columbia Christian Church. She was retired from the Adair County School System, having taught for 32 years. She was teaching at Shepherd Elementary School when she retired. She was a member of the Adair County Teachers' Association.

She is survived by her husband, Remus Howard, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: James Curtis (Jimmy) and Judy Howard of Columbia, SC

  • Two grandchildren: Stephanie Howard Watson and husband Greg, Lexington, KY; and Elizabeth Clayton Howard, Columbia, SC.

  • One great-grandchild: Stewart James Watson

  • And three sisters: Margaret Clayton and Marian Vance, both of Columbia, KY; and Lois Humble, Louisville, KY
Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Grissom Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
