County votes to buy surplus 2001 Jeep Cherokee for $4,500 Action follows intelligence gathered on reconnaissance mission to Frankfort by Lonnie Page, A.L. Sinclair Adair Fiscal Court voted to authorize the payment of $4,500 for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle became available as State Surplus, but because the window of opportunity is only five days, Judge Vaughan called the special session for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in the Judge's office. "We need some vehicles," Judge Vaughan said, and explained that the emergency was the short time the State was allowing for buying the vehicle. The vehicle will be used by the County Road Department. The county is still hoping to get a pickup truck as surplus. The vote, on a motion by District One Magistrate Roger Stephens, was 6-0. Senior Magistrate Wid Harris was not present for the emergency meeting. A check in the PVA's office showed that the surplus vehicle like has a retail value of $9-11,000.00. Intelligence for the availability of the Jeep Cherokee was gathered through a reconnaissance mission carried out by Lonnie Page of the Road Department and Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair, who snooped around Frankfort to find the vehicle. After they spotted the vehicle they communicated with Judge Vaughan, who spun into action, called the Squires into session, and secured the court's approval. Mr. Sinclair said that they started the engine. "It runs good," he said. He added, "It's a white." And, he said that it is a four-door model. Regular monthly Adair County Fiscal Court meetings are held at 7:00 p.m., each second Tuesday. The meetings are open to the public.
