Jason Harmon sends a favorite corresondent's report from Purdy

Jason Harmon fondly recalls the community newsletters which used to be posted in the old county papers. This is an April, 1967 letter from one of his favorite writers, Mrs. Alec Burton:

PURDY
By Mrs. Alec Burton
(April 14, 1967)

We have just had the first little rain of the month I believe, which seemed to dampen the gardens that have been planted.

Mr. Walker Cowan was brought home March 25, after spending eleven weeks in the Adair Memorial Hospital. He seems to be feeling much better.

Little Ronnie Harmons arm seems to be much better. I think he will be taken to the doctor next week to see if a skin graft is necessary.

Mr. William Cowan is still confined to his bed. Mrs. Pearl Barrett, a sister of Mr. Cowan, stayed with them for a few days, but has gone home now. She was not feeling well when she went home. Mrs. Evie Burton is not well. She visited her doctor recently. Her daughter, Lula, seemed to be feeling better when they visited her on March 25.

Mrs. Mary Bailey has returned home after spending two weeks with her children in Indiana. Mr. And Mrs. Ervin Hardwick called on us a short time recently. Their little daughter, Peggy, has a broken arm, but seems to be getting along good.

Dale and Darrell Burton have recovered from measles and are able to be out again. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burton.

Cathy, Karen, Carol and Junior Vincent have had measles, but are better. They are children of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Vincent.

Little Clifford Harmon has mumps. Also his brother, Rodger, is sick. I dont know yet if he is taking mumps or if it is something else. They are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Olen Harmon.

Mrs. Alice Wilson called me today and told me about getting her finger hurt real bad in a washing machine wringer. I sure hope she doesnt lose her finger, if the Dear Lord wills.

Our little granddaughter, Pamela Watkins, injured her arm in a fall. It seems to be getting better. She visited her doctor again on Thursday.

Our Son, Edwin, and family visited here for the Easter holiday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ealie Burton returned here after visiting in Indiana.
( I really miss reading all the community correspondents. Mrs. Alec (Rosa) Burton was always one of my favorite ones to read. Alec and Rosa were wonderful people and were highly respected in their community. Mr. Alec Burton passed away in 1977. Mrs. Rosa Burton passed away in 1981.
