A history of the Adair County Courthouse The historic Adair County Courthouse was built in 1884, and was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1974. Lee Ann Jessee, of the Adair Heritage Association and Director of the Adair County Public Library, shared this history of the Adair County Courthouse, prepared by Vonnie Kolbenschlag with many photos from George Kolbenschlag, in 1997: History-Adair-County-Courthouse-Kolbenschlag (PDF, 3.6MB). The document includes information on the settlement of Columbia, the original 1806 courthouse, and the design and funding of the 1884 courthouse that still stands today.
